This puzzle had a fun little theme that is spelled out in the central 15-letter revealer EXCHANGING RINGS. In each of the four lines with ringed boxes, if you swap letters you get a common phrase. For example,
HORnET & RAIsERS, becomes HORsE TRAInERS.

Props to Simeon Seigel for a fun and different sort of puzzle, and to Will Shortz and the NYT team for cluing the themed entries in a way that wasn’t so abstract as to be overly frustrating.
