The Voice to Parliament referendum has renewed public debate about a federal treaty with Indigenous Australians.
Prominent No campaigners are split on the issue, and while many on the Yes side support it, they say it is a separate issue.
The idea for the referendum comes from the 2017 Uluru Statement from Heart, which made three requests: treaty, truth telling and voice.
All of the state governments, except Western Australia, have committed to their own treaty processes, as has the Northern Territory.
Of them, Victoria is furthest advanced. In that state, negotiations are expected to start early next year, in what will be an Australian first.
