On July 8, 1889, The Wall Street Journal published its first edition in New York City. It was published daily by Dow Jones & Company and was originally a hand typeset newspaper. Initially just two cents a copy, the WSJ is now the second-largest newspaper in the United States in circulation.
For today, Jared letterpress printed “THE WALL STREET JOURNAL” in Antique Extra Condensed type font, which is the closest type font that we have to the font used for the masthead of the newspaper. This type was cast by the Palmer & Rey Type Foundry in San Francisco in the 1890s.
