Simone Biles Calls Out Wall Street Journal’s Image Screw Up: ‘This Picture Isn’t Even Me’.
American Superstar Simone Biles recently claimed a third gold medal at the 2023 gymnastics world championships as she won the women’s beam on the final day of the competition. As Biles made headlines, many news organisations used images and videos from the championship. However, it seems like the Wall Street Journal did not get it right this time as they used an incorrect image of the gymnast while publishing an article. This did not end here. Simone herself noticed the error and corrected the organisation on ‘X’.
While re-sharing the article, Simone mentioned, “this picture isn’t even me…….. try again.” This left many fans in complete splits. While many thought that it was all fun, there were people who took it to be an embarrassment.
The post, since being put up, has over 854K views. Here, have a look for yourself:
“I will never understand how this happens, in this case or with any BAME athlete, or celebrity… Surely it’s as simple as searching the name in their database and saving the picture??” commented an ‘X’ user. Another person wrote, “This is so disrespectful to a true champion like Simone Biles.”
After all the criticism, WSJ took down the post. However, they have not commented on the matter yet.
