The sky across Tasmania has been lit up with a vibrant aurora pink, creating a beautiful spectacle for south-east Australians. The Aurora Australis is considered the southern hemisphere’s equivalent of the famed Northern Lights. Director of the University of Tasmania’s Greenhill Observatory Andrew Cole says the previous geomagnetic storm of this strength occurred over 20 years ago.
